Day 87 ` Beware of Distractions~


Welcome to day 87 devotional reading and reflection as we continue our journey through our discussion of  Joyce Meyer's book, " 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life." We are slowly approaching to a New Year and making our way down this mountain. We have worked through a lot of things. This last stretch is important and we are going to make it.

Day 87~ Beware of Distractions~

Our scripture reading comes from Mark 4:19, " Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age. and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless."

Many reasons why our lives seem complicated is that we are too often distracted. This is Satan's tool to keep us from achieving our God-given purpose in life. How often are we looking into our past and we become distracted of those past memories that we aren't focusing on what is going on ahead of us. It is kinda like looking in our review view mirror all the time while we are driving but we don't realize how distracted we are using it other than directing our driving. We all have done it,  we used that mirror to apply makeup,  fix our hair, or fuss at the children but never just using it to guide our vehicle. That's like us not using our Bible,  praying and not listening to that small still voice inside. We are distracted.

Reflections ~ Old Things has Passed for the New to Begin~

We are approaching the new year we can either keep carrying 2016 into 2017 or we can let it go and gasp what is new in store for us. I had a dream that I was driving a RV filled with junk down a narrow road. I had a cake and an ice cream cake in the middle of the junk not to damage what was new with my junk. The roads got curvy and steep. Things moving all around. Finally,  I stopped the RV and things fell out the door. Then I realized I needed to clean out my junk and stop trying to manage it around something new. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, " Therefore if any man be in Christ,  he is a new creature : old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." As we approach 2017,  let everything in 2016 GO!  It's a New Year!

I don't have any children of my own, but I feel I am still responsible for all the children I meet. It is so important to realize how special each one is. Worrying is like a rocking chair that keeps rocking but you aren't going nowhere. I am not a parent but I have babysat, raised nieces and nephews, and was a daycare teacher for 20 years. Welcome to day 29 with our daily devotional and reflection as we continue to discuss Joyce Meyer's book, " 100 ways to simplify your life." There has been a lot covered in a few days and I will recap for those who are just joining our discussion. Day 29~ Think Before You Speak~ Our scripture reading is coming from Proverbs 13:3, " He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin." Throughout the bible, God tells us numerous times to watch our mouths. My pastor is starting a new series titles Speech Therapy. It's not learning how to pronounce words effectively and learning to say letters correctly. This is more of spiritual check-up for Christians. our tongue can create a huge mess in our lives. I grew up not to speak at certain times and as I have grown up, I learned to speak my mind but at times I have to retract what I'm going to say and check in with God. Welcome to day 80 as we are continuing with our devotional reading and reflection.God is amazing and so loving! We don't deserve anything and so often take it for granted. Day 80~ A bit of Grace for Today~ Our scripture reading comes from James 4:6, "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Today as I was working,  I realized how undeserving I am of God's blessings in my life. We are looking at God's grace. God loves us so much that he sent His son to die for our sins. As I struggle with learning new schedules and children,  I mess up a lot. People have been patient with me learning children and routines from all classrooms.
