Day 89 ~ Don't Be so Hard on Yourself~ God's Thoughts are Higher When Seeing the Bigger Picture~
Welcome to day 89 as we approach final days of our discussion through Joyce Meyer's book, " 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life." We have too much stinkin' thinkin' going on in our minds that our vision is cloudy and we aren't seeing the whole picture of what God sees. We will discuss this more as we continue.
Day 89 ~ Don't Be so Hard on Yourself~
Our scripture reading comes from Matthew 11:29, " Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls."
I have to be the first to admit that I am my own worst critic. I tend to be more hard on myself on something that people don't even care as much as I do. One thing could go wrong and it will play over again in my mind how I could have done it better. Yes I agree that there is always room for improvement, but sometimes we continue year after year to focus on that one thing for improvement when in reality God has already put you in that position to be free of that thing or thought but we continue to be in bondage because we find it to be our companion. Our thinking has been clouded over with negative thoughts and feelings that we find ourselves in a depressed, bitter, angry, and even a hopeless state of mind. Depression is something we all face in our lifetime. Depression is a serious mental health issue that if it goes without any notice, can and will lead to serious problems. Many Christians are taught that it is a sin to be depressed and many were taught that we couldn't admit to being depressed. Depression isn't the sin. The sin underlying depression is our negative thinking. False God of placing our identity in how people think of us. False God of living behind a mask of reality. False God of living up to other people's expectations.
Reflection~ God's Thoughts are Higher When Seeing the Bigger Picture~
Jesus is not harsh. Matter fact, he is described as being humble, gentle, meek, and lowly ( Matthew 11:28- 30). We can stop being hard on ourselves because God gives us a second chance. Our God is full of mercy and long-suffering who loves us more than we could ever imagine. So today BREATHE! Breathe life into spirit that you are not what others say who you are. You are a Child of God. There is nothing that could ever change that unless you continue following Satan's lies through negative thinking. That's why it is so important to be guarded in our hearts and have a renew mind set daily through the reading of God's word. When reading God's word, you cannot just read it mentally but also you have to apply it in your heart. God says in Isaiah 55: 8-9, " For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." If we set our minds on heavenly thoughts, we can begin to see the bigger picture of the situation and realize that thought or situation isn't as nearly as bad as we thought! BREATHE!
