Day 12~ Get Your Mind Off Yourself~ " A New Attitude of Faith"

It is exciting to see what God has in store for us today! We are reading our way through Joyce Meyer's book 100 Ways to simplify your life by looking into Day 12 of our study!

Day 12~ Get Your Mind Off Yourself

According to Mark 8:34," And Jesus called [to him] the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after me, let him deny himself [forget, ignore, disown, and lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross."

Mission if You Should Choose~ Forget Yourself

My pastor has been preaching a series called, "Multiply", which is understanding our primary goal as Christians is to make disciples. In order to understand making disciples, we have to understand the core of our Christian walk. Our core goal is to follow Christ. When we gave our hearts to receive Christ into our hearts, we were saying ,"the world behind me, the cross before me, no turning back , no turning back." Here comes the sticky part... this includes our hopes, dreams, and plans we have for ourselves. Yes we should care for ourselves but God doesn't want us to worry about how we are going to take care of ourselves. If we truly believe in Him, he will take care of our needs. It is one of God's many promises (Philippians 4:19).  Really our only requirement is show love through caring for others in way that we share the gospel of Christ with them to know that God is love. There will be times we need to drop what matters to us for the need of others.

New Attitude of Faith

In 2009, God was setting me up when things started to crumble under me. My mom received news from her primary doctor that she needed a test because she found blood in her stool.I was at her colonoscopy appointment when they found a tumor in her colon. The worse fear was that CANCER struck again! It took my grandma at 59, my aunt at 56, and my mom was 55. I was by myself when I received the news but my mom wasn't scared! She was calm so therefore I was calm. Next we were scheduling her surgery! I was physically by myself but peace surrounded me. Her surgery lasted roughly 4 hours. The surgeon was able to stretch her colon so she wouldn't have to wear a bag. After surgery, she was sent upstairs for observation and by the next day we were exhausted. Mom told my dad and I to go home because she just wanted to sleep. About 30 minutes after we left, our pastor at that time called my dad to tell us to get to the hospital because they were taking her to ICU because her heart collapsed. The first 24 hours were critical to stabilize her but by 10 pm we were sent home. The next 3 days I watched my mom lay in the ICU not doing much! I prayed to God if it was his will to to take her home, I knew she would be in glory! My mom had 6 months of chemo without suffering from any side affects of it. God just told me to let her sleep! My mom had stage 4 colon cancer with the survival rate of 0% to 12% chance to live. Today my mom is a 7 year cancer survivor.

Reflection:

When we accept Jesus into our lives, we become brand new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17). Once we take that step of faith, we are leaving behind ourselves for the sake of Christ. This is a new mental thinking- It's not about me! Have you accepted Christ as your savior? If not, take this opportunity to say this small prayer: Father God in Heaven. I believe in you and I repent of my sins. I'm asking you to forgive me with the redemption of your son's blood. I personally want Jesus to be apart of my life. I desire to have a personal relationship with you. All this in your holy name Amen! If you prayed, drop me a message, I will get someone to talk with you so more!
If you are already saved, it's time to get our minds off ourselves and go make disciples!
