Day 6 ~ Joyce Meyer's 100 Ways to Simplify Your life~ Letting Go and Letting God!
Welcome to Day 6 devotional reading and reflection! we are continuing to read through and discuss Joyce Meyer's 100 Ways to simplify your life.
6) Let Go of What Lies Behind~ Scripture reading is from Is. 43:18" Do not [earnestly] remember the former things: neither consider the things of old.
" You build on a failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." Johnny Cash
(Meyer, 2007)
WOW!! This is a tough one for many of us including myself. Of course, I had to learn the hard way it seems but now I am going to share it with you. How many times have you tried to go back and fix things ( relationships and many others)? Did you get tired and worn out? How about keep remembering a hurtful time? God wants to let us know we have FREEDOM if we just LET GO! Is it easy? Not at all! There was a time I was overly angry with a dreadful situation that I wanted to control the outcome! It was painful and cause more heartache in the long run! I was angry and I carried a "chip on my shoulders." In Isaiah 61:3, it reads, " To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might called tress of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified." I remember keeping my disappointments, bad memories, shattered dreams, and hateful remarks in a jar in my heart. I kept going back to it day after day! The anger was still there. I was drained at times and did not know what was going on until one day God got my attention. I was reading my bible when I stumbled across this verse in Deuteronomy 2:3 which reads, " Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward." It was loud enough in my spirit and I turned the other direction as looked on the wall my favorite verse Ps. 46:10, it reads, " Be still and know I am God." My anger! It was holding me back from what God had in store for me. Granted he was already working on it prior to, it was just at the point in time that he really meant business. It wasn't easy but God has been with me throughout the process of letting Go! He can help you too if you will allow him to!!
