Day 74 ~ Tackle Each Day~Discipline Produces Fruit of Peace and Righteousness

Welcome to day 74 devotional reading and reflection as we continue our study through Joyce Meyer's book, " 100 Ways to simplify Your Life." Each new day God gives us a chance to do better. It takes a lot of hard work to improve things for the better. The best thing to do is to take one day at a time.

Day 74 ~ Tackle Each Day~

Our scripture reading comes from Acts 24:16, " Therefore I always exercise and discipline myself [ mortifying my body, deadening my carnal affections, bodily appetites, and worldly desires, endeavoring in all respects] to have a clear (unshaken, blameless) conscience, void of offense toward God and toward men."

This is so difficult at times to be reminded that I have to discipline myself to do better. I get sidetracked easily because I start a project and move on to the next because I get so far to realize I have to figure out another step before it is finished. If I ignore daily tasks for just a day, it seems that a week as come and gone because I have many things to do. Then I start feeling overwhelmed and then I get to the point that I am irritated. I am not at peace. I know that if I just do things as it needs to be done daily, it won't be too bad. Then when do I sleep! I am physically restrained at times but I have to fight through those days to keep alive. I have to discipline myself now to workout daily either running on the treadmill with weight lifting sessions and yoga. It is hard to stay on schedule when other things get in your way like work, church (sometimes I think I can train), family, and school. Discipline is being able to say "No" to things that we want to do rather thing we need to do first. This is no different than our spiritual lives.

Reflection~ Discipline Produces Fruit of Peace and Righteousness~

According to God's word in Hebrews 12:11, " No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." In Hebrews, our spiritual lives are compared to runners that are running a marathon. If we considered what a runner does to train for a marathon, is the same way we have to with our spiritual lives. We have the equipment and tools to use but many of us are sitting on the sidelines as runners are going past us. We have our daily Armour of God and we have his WORD to train us to be disciplined in our spiritual lives. Let's start running!
