Day 27~ Don't Judge Something You Don't Know~ Casting the First Stone
Welcome to day 27 devotional and reflection as we continue reading through Joyce Meyer's book, "100 ways to simplify your life." So many times we get caught up in other peoples' drama that we loose focus of who God really needs us to be. You know my name but don't know my story! This last few weeks is me telling you my story but the best part is telling you about the God I serve! The God who showed me what TRUE LOVE is! Standards to follow for my life and to understand his grace and mercy. To tell you HE IS REAL! and HE MEANS BUSINESS!
Day 27 ~ Don't Judge Something You Don't Know
Our scripture reading comes from James 4:11," [My] brethren, do not speak evil about or accuse one another. He that maligns a brother or judges his brother is maligning and criticizing the Law and judging the Law. But if you judge the Law, you are not a practicer of the Law but a censor and judge [of it]."
To Tell You My Story~ Is To Tell of Him~
" If you judge people, you have no time to love them." ~ Mother Teresa
If we look at the verse and let those words sink in, God is saying if we are busy judging someone and profess to be a Christian we are not showing love. The Law is love. There is no other way around it. This piggy backs with minding your own business. To bully others is wrong! Listen the one you have called a slut could be a virgin waiting for her Boaz. The one you have called fat could be their DNA! The one you called ugly could be the one who gets their picture in a magazine. The one you have called a loser could be the one who changes people's lives. The one you have placed on the judgment seat, we are wrong to pass the sentence because God is the only one who has that right. God knows the details of every person on earth, knows what they are doing and He knows why they are doing it. The best piece advice I have read over and over again is to watch and pray. Treat those around you the way you want to be treated.Work with children. They will tell you the truth about you when you least expect it. I was subbing for a daycare. There was a new boy who started. He was not like the other children. He cried, screamed, and didn't seem to listen. Many started to call him dumb. As a teacher, this was the hardest part hearing this from other people because of the flashback of when I was in Kindergarten. This particular day, I had his class and he started to scream. I turned on my phone and play the" cuppy cake song." He came to the desk and started singing it with me until the next song which was faster. He started to dance faster and then the kids started to join him. This child was autistic. Autism comes in different forms. I was able to find something to help him fit in with the kids. When he got frustrated and wouldn't listen, I just clicked on his song.
Reflection~ Cast the First Stone
Open your bible up and read John 8 : 1-11, " but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law, and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, " Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" They were using the question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger, When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, " Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" " No one, sir," she said. " Then neither do I condemn you, " Jesus declared. " Go now and leave your life of sin."
1) How did the Pharisees know where to find the woman who was caught committing adultery?
I always wondered about that myself. How many times have you accused someone of something that you just did yourself?
