Day 35 ~ Keep Strife out of your Life~ Don't be Foolish~

Welcome to day 35 devotional and reflection reading through our discussion of Joyce Meyer's book , " 100 ways to simplify your life." There is great sadness in how things played out in Charlotte, NC the last few days. Our common sense from bystanders, protesters, and city officials is not present. What we saw unfold in Charlotte could have been avoided easily. Yes I understand that someone was killed, but we don't know the full details of what actually happened. God is not pleased!

Day 35~ Keep the Strife out of Your Life~

Our scripture reading comes from Proverbs 20:3, " It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel."
We are so easily offended by everything and it is okay not to agree with everything, but it how we are handling these disagreements. I don't know about you, I cannot stand senseless drama and bickering. With families and friends, we will have it because of changes in life or situations causes tense emotions. However, as Christians we are told over and over again to refrain from strife. We always either have to prove we are "right" or " have the last word." This is something that I am learning day by day. There are somethings worth fighting for while others won't matter 5 years from now. The best advice I have come across numerous times is to avoid unnecessary conversations that have the potential to lead to distress. Sometimes, it is better to step back, think what is being discussed, and decide if you know enough information to that particular situation to be arguing about it. One third of the time, we don't have enough information about the subject! We easily fall into the trap of believing everything we read through social media and media itself then we allow it to overtake our lives. Media loves ratings!!!!! Doesn't matter what channel you watch they are looking for ratings. You never get the whole truth and they repeat with the same images that caused a strife.

 Reflection~Don't Be Foolish~

As we read 2 Timothy 2 : 23-24, " Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful." When we strife, we are actually blocking our blessings and allowing Satan to have a foothold in our lives. Do you want peace in your life? Consider what you are arguing about with family, friends, and your community.
" Heat and Animosity, contest and conflict, may sharpen the wits, although they rarely do; they never strengthen the understanding, clear the perspicacity, guide the judgment, or improve the heart." ~ Walter Savage Landor
