Day 54~ Don't Overestimate Yourself~ Be Humble
Welcome to day 54 with our devotional and reflection as we continue our discussion through Joyce Meyers book, " 100 ways to Simplify Your Life." We are learning each new day how we can simplify our life. Majority of the time is first changing ourselves. We are the issue! Let's get deeper!
Day 54~ Don't Overestimate Yourself~
Our scripture reading comes from Proverbs 29:23, " A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor."
We have issues with understanding that it is OKAY TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! There is this thing called pride that easily likes to sneak in. PRIDE is defined to be the feeling satisfaction in one's achievement. We seek that acceptance from others in our gifts and talents. We want their approval. We seek attention. HUMBLE is defined to be showing submissive demeanor of our own importance. This is a slippery slope for many. We see it all the time through movie stars, singers and even those in our families. We see the destruction that it does to them and loved ones. I remember one time I was crying to my grandma that I was always picked on in class. I didn't understand why nobody wanted to be my friend in my first year in kindergarten. I cried every day waiting to go home. There was this one girl named "Patti," and she was always sitting with me. The teacher made us feel we weren't important for her time because we were not like other children. My grandma told me to " Kill them with kindness." People really do not know how to handle kindness. Telling them thank you really throws them off. Every year for open house I went to see that teacher and said, " Thank you for teaching me to be a different person than you thought." In 6th grade my reading teacher Mrs. Weber, said, " You are not dumb, you have a reading ability of 7th grade with comprehension of a 11th grader. You will not need any remedial assistance and to believe in yourself. All things are possible." My grandma passed when I was in first grade with cancer. Mrs. Weber was my remedial reading teacher who was there shortly when I went to second grade. She reminded me of my grandma. In a few days grandma, I am graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business and Management from University of Phoenix with a 3.68 GPA. Mrs. Ahart I am going to change the world. And Mrs. Weber you are right, all things are possible.
Reflection~ Be Humble~
In Romans 12 :3, " For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." When we think too highly of ourselves, we cannot serve others. We are not effective in our gifts and talents. We can draw the crowds with singing and so forth, but are they growing in God or being entertained. Relationships suffer when one is prideful over the other. They can be judgmental and over bearing with demands to meet their needs first. That is why it is stated in the Ephesians 5: 21, " Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God." To serve God with our being and learning to serve others in that same manner. Once we realize that if we align our attitude about ourselves, we are gaining a peace of mind. Once we have that peace of mind, that is when we can start to enjoy our life. But first thank God for everything and learn to serve Him correctly. When you have learned that, your remaining relationships will be aligned once you start serving them like you do for God.
